Description
CogAT test has three main sections and the subsections vary with the level of test
1) Verbal
Picture/Verbal Analogies:
- Images : The student is given four images. The first two images go together. The third image goes with one of the answer choices. The student is asked to choose the image that goes with the third image the same way that the second image goes with the first.
- Words : The student is given three words. The first two words go together. The third word goes with one of the answer choices. The student is asked to choose the word that goes with the third word the same way that the second word goes with the first.
Sentence Completion:
- The student is given a sentence with a word left out and is asked to choose a word that makes the best sense in the sentence.
Picture/Verbal Classification:
- Words : The student is given a list of three words that are alike in some way. The student is asked to choose a word, from a selection of four words, that is also alike in the same way.
- Images : Given images are related to each other in a certain way. Choose an image from the given options that is related to the given images in the question.
2) Quantitative
Number Analogies:
- Determine the relationship between two mathematical concepts, based on another given pair of concepts.
Number Series:
- Complete a series of numbers by identifying the underlying pattern.
Number Puzzles:
- Solve a given equation to discover the value of an unknown.
Quantitative Relations:
- Two problems numbered one and two with three answer choices. The student must solve the two problems and determine if the answer is greater, less than, or equal to.
Equation Building:
- The student is given numbers and signs. The student is asked to combine the numbers and signs to get a solution that is an answer choice.
3) Nonverbal
Figure Classification:
- Choose the shape/ figure that most fits a given category.
- The student is given three figures that are related in some way. Student must choose an answer choice that relates exactly to the given figures in the question
Figure Matrices:
- The student is given four figures. The first two figures go together. The third figure goes with one of the answer choices. The student is asked to choose the figure that goes with the third figure the same way that the second figure goes with the first.
Paper Folding:
- The student is shown how a square piece of paper is folded and where holes are punched in it. The student needs to figure out how the paper will look when it is unfolded.
